Yoga is an ancient practice with a guiding philosophy of ‘union’ or connectedness of mind, body and spirit. Yoga supports the body’s natural tendency towards health and healing. The many benefits include improvements in strength, flexibility and balance, mindfulness, reduction of stress and anxiety and promotion of the bodies immune system and nervous system to improve coping strategies and reduce chronic pain.
Our Yoga classes incorporate knowledge of the ancient guiding principles together with an understanding of the body, injury rehabilitation and individual difference. We offer classes in both Hatha and Vinyasa Flow Yoga with focus in each class on the asanas (poses and postures), pranayama (breath control) and meditation.
Hatha Yoga Classes
The word Hatha can be translated to mean “force” or “exertion” and the primary elements of this style are the physical asanas and breath control. A Hatha class is set at a slower pace with emphasis on alignment, breath and body awareness. These classes are perfect for those new to Yoga and for those wanting to enjoy their practice at a slower pace. But don’t be mistaken the style does allow for stronger physical practice and classes can be modified to suit both beginners and the more advanced Yogi!
Vinyasa Flow Classes
These classes are more dynamic linking the asana postures to movement and breath to achieve a smooth continuous flow and balance in the mind and body. Inhalation is usually connected to upward, open movements, while exhalation is tied to downward movements. Vinyasa flow classes are suitable for anyone wanting to extend their Hatha yoga practice into a continuous flowing class. Vinyasa Flow sequences are practised and extended over a number of weeks and deeper mindfulness is achieved through regular practice. We recommend if you have not practiced Yoga before or regularly for a while to start with 5+ Hatha classes to practice the asana prior to commencing our Vinyasa Flow classes.
Our classes are suitable for all ages and levels of experience, strength and flexibility. We understand the need for individualisation in a class environment and combine our knowledge of Physiotherapy with Yoga principles and practice to modify poses and postures to be suitable for all levels – from beginners to experts, and those wanting to re-engage yoga under professional guidance after some time away.
If you are unsure about where to start your Yoga practice please book a 30 minute individual session to help you get started. We also offer 2 Person and 3 Person small groups which are perfect for families and friends.
Yoga is available at our Olinda studio: 232 Ridge Road Olinda.
